Independent Republican Presidential Candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin says that attacks on Mitt Romney for putting his dog in a rooftop carrier on Romney’s station wagon are ridiculous. Andy says back in the day dog lovers routinely allowed pets to ride in the back of pickup trucks. In rural areas, they probably still do.

Andy reminisces about his departed dogs and gives Mitt Romney a pass on Seamus

(NEW YORK) (February 15, 2012) Tuesday night Ed Shultz on MSNBC was bashing Mitt Romney because decades ago Mitt put the family dog on a rooftop carrier of his station wagon for a vacation. The story of Romney’s dog-on-the-roof has become a political legend (link below). Newton Gingrich, who used cars for more heinous purposes, made a campaign commercial about Romney’s rooftop mutt (link below).

The way things are going right now, with Gingrich heading for the political morgue, and Romney and Santorum fighting to the “death,” I might just emerge from the forthcoming “brokered” convention as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate. At least I know how to fight back against Obama’s dirty tricks. “Barry O” would have to behave himself if I was the Republicans’ presidential candidate. (I knew David Axelrod when he actually worked for a living, before he started spending his time digging up dirt on peoples’ personal lives.) I’m the only “Chicago tough” presidential candidate.

So by defending Mitt Romney I am not endorsing his candidacy. This is just a shout out.

Mitt deserves a respite on “Caninegate.” He did nothing wrong. Rather, placing the family pet in secure carrier on the roof of his station wagon may have been a wise decision. It was certainly a “conservative” approach.

I take a back seat to no one as a dog lover. One of the highlights of my life was serving as the self-appointed “Superintendent” of the “Royal Baghdad Canine Constabulary” in Iraq in 2003. While living in Baghdad I trained wild dogs and used them in the search for Saddam Hussein. We had our secret codes and I ended up as a veterinarian to a litter of puppies. You can see a picture of my two big babies on my personal web site (www.AndyMartin.com).

My love for those animal companions and my work to treat and love homeless dogs in Baghdad became military lore in the neighborhood. The dogs also became a recruiting tool for information gathering.

When my St. Bernard “Grumpy” died in 1977, her passing was a media event in Chi-town. “Grumpy” was one of Chicago’s best-known and beloved canines (certainly more beloved than me). And “Goofy,” a former Chicago girl friend’s dog, still has a place in my heart. The lady is long gone but the love for the dog lingers.

So what gives with the Romney smears?

Let me tell you about my experiences, with the hindsight of decades.

Coming of age in semi-rural Illinois (Champaign-Urbana and exurban farming areas) I had red Chevy pickup truck. And guess what, my dog, and then Goofy and Grumpy together, loved to ride in the back of the open truck. Open, exposed, endangered. And occasionally wet. Yes, we did things like than in those days. In retrospect I don’t think it was very safe, and I’m not sure if it is even still allowed (people can’t ride in the back of pickups any more).

But my dogs died of old age and illness, not from any injury riding along highways in the back of a red pickup truck. They loved the back of the truck. Looking back forty (40) years it seems to me that an open truck is a dangerous way to transport the family pet. But we did it then without a second thought.

And if Governor Rick Perry invited me to campaign down in Texas (he has the time now) I am sure we’d see dogs riding in the back of pickup trucks in rural areas of the state.

Romney, on the other hand, had a special custom carrier for his dog Seamus. My guess is the only complaint Seamus had was that the Romneys didn’t have a pickup truck so he could ride in the open air.

Today most people are a lot more careful than we were back in the day. But back then, dogs loved to ride in the back of pickups. And somewhere up in the sky, Grumpy and Goofy are looking down and barking “Yes we did.”

So lay off Romney for taking his dog on a family vacation. There are reasons to criticize Romney, but endangering the family pet is not one of them. He didn’t leave Seamus back home at a kennel.

P.S. If anyone wants more pictures of my Baghdad babies, Jake and Lucy, just say the word and I’ll post them or send them along. They are in my heart everyday. As for Seamus, if Mitt reads this, Mitt send me an autographed picture of Seamus. It will go in a place of honor (but not on the roof of my car).

P.P.P.S. I have a good friend down in Wayne County, Illinois. I’m sure if I had a new dog and a truck and went down to visit my friend Bob for the fall Pumpkin Festival, my dog would want to ride outside in the back. Who’s to say if my better judgment would succumb to let my pooch have an old-fashioned, open-air ride?

(NEW YORK) (February 11, 2012) With all of the hullabaloo of about birth control (“contraception” in polite media speak) you may have missed a magical moment for the nation’s defense: President Barack Obama has finally found a new weapons system he can endorse: the marshmallow gun. (See links below)

Obama wants to gut our national defense. He wants to shrink the Navy (“Water, water every where, and all the boards did shrink…” – The Rime of the Ancient Mariner). He wants to shrink the Army (“Hup two three, four; hup two three; hup two,” oh well.) He has ordered a new supply of kites for the Air Force. The Marines? They always get Navy leftovers, anyway. Space exploration? Fuggedaboutit.

But HALT. The Mighty Warrior Obama has now found a new weapons system that he can deploy to make the world safer for Islam: the marshmallow gun.

We are indebted to a high school student who brought his science fair project to the White House, where Obama was mesmerized by the new weapons system. Obama probably thought to himself, “Now here is a weapon I can deploy. It saves money, and won’t hurt anyone. It’s totally useless. What a weapon!”

On the phone Obama may have called, “Panetta, I found the answer to our downsizing problems. Get over here…”

During the 1988 campaign Democratic presidential candidate Governor Mike Dukakis was photographed in a tank (link below). The image backfired. Dukakis was already viewed as soft on defense and the tank moment became a joke.

Obama has been more careful about embarrassing images. But now Republicans have their “Dukakis in the tank” picture: Obama firing the marshmallow gun.

The marshmallow gun exemplifies everything bad about Obama’s defense policies. He is cutting national security to finance handouts to entitlement recipients. The military, already challenged by a decade of war, is being gutted and deprived of new weapons and adequate forces. (Here is where Barack Obama and Ron Paul are “two-leftists-in-a-pod;” both want to undermine our national security. Ron Paul, an Obama Republican?)

Maybe the ayatollahs will be frightened into submission now that we have the marshmallow gun. Can you imagine the gossip in Qum? (“‘Marshmallow gun,’ is that some sort of secret weapon the Americans have developed? I smell an American plot to undermine the Islamic Republic.”)

Footnote: Former president George W. Bush saw the reports of the weapon and phoned in to the White House. Bush wanted to know if Obama would report the marshmallow gun to the United Nations as a “weapon of mass destruction” because the gun’s deployment might lead to childhood obesity.

Iran is building a nuclear bomb; Barack Obama is building the marshmallow gun. Need I say more?

(NEW YORK) (February 8, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin will hold a New York City news conference today, Wednesday, February 8th to urge Senator Mark Kirk to authorize the release of all of his medical and hospital files. Andy says there are Internet rumors that “gay sex” may have contributed to or triggered the senator’s recent stroke.

“I am delighted that Senator Kirk’s new surgery appears to be successful,” Andy states. “Mark is in our prayers for a speedy recovery. I enjoy battling with ‘The Kirkster’ and was deeply saddened by his sudden illness. It’s a frightening reminder of what can happen to any one of us.

“But now that the senator is recovering, the unusual manner in which the senator is being kept in ‘intensive care’ while he receives visitors, has triggered Internet rumors. Is the senator being ‘quarantined?’ What are hospital officials hiding?

“My own headquarters is two blocks from Northwestern Hospital. So I know people at the hospital. People are talking, or gossiping or whatever. The rumors need to be addressed. In the past when I asked Senator kirk to respond to similar rumors, he did so. Kirk’s supporters have also acted in a manner that has generated suspicions about the underlying facts of Kirk’s health and the factors that may have trigged his emergency.

“There appears to be growing concern that the reality of Kirk’s illness, or its root causes, has being shielded from the public because issues may involve either gay sex or high-risk behavior that helped trigger the stroke.

“I would suggest Senator Kirk or his medical representative authorize the release of Kirk’s complete medical records, including the hospitalization files at Lake Forest Hospital and Northwestern Memorial. The public’s concern is only going to grow when we are told the senator is ‘improving’ but he is being housed in ‘intensive care,’ and that he is well enough to ‘Blackberry’ and meet with a senate colleague (Senator Joe Manchin) but not well enough to meet with a ‘pooled’ representative of the media.

“While there are only gay sex ‘rumors’ filling my email in-box right now, there is medical evidence for the proposition that homosexual activity can create a heightened risk for stroke (see link below). Homosexual activist Mike Rogers ‘outed’ Kirk as a homosexual during the 2010 campaign (see link below).

“Senator Tim Johnson had a similar tragedy (stroke) some years ago and Kirk’s staff has consulted Johnson’s staff. The two states are not comparable. Senator Johnson represents a state with a tiny population. Senator Kirk represents an urban center with 18 districts. What would work in North Dakota would not translate to the heavy workload of an Illinois senator.

“I wish Senator Kirk a speedy recovery so we can get back to sparring as soon as possible. No one likes to see a political opponent brought down by illness. In the meantime, Senator Kirk would remove the growing cloud of suspicion concerning contributing factors to his stoke if he authorized the release of all of his medical records. I hope he will do so promptly,” Martin says.

(PALM BEACH, FL) (January 23, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a Palm Beach news conference today, Monday, January 23rd to accuse Newt Gingrich of running a presidential campaign fueled by crime syndicate cash from Las Vegas and Communist China. “Sheldon Adelson is trying to buy a president,” Andy charges. “Newt Gingrich has been a stooge for Adelson for years (links below). Newt Gingrich is the biggest crook in American politics in the past several decades. No other national candidate has been supported by millions of dollars from a Las Vegas casino operator.

“Las Vegas was created by crime syndicate cash from Chicago. I helped send crime syndicate hoodlums to prison and monitored others that didn’t make it, such as Allen Dorfman who was executed by Chicago mobsters (link below).

“I am appalled that a candidate for president, and a Republican no less, is being bankrolled with millions of dollars by a Las Vegas casino operator. Sheldon Adelson is also a close associate of the Chinese Communist regime and is a ‘big macher’ in Macau. Newt might rail against China, but his campaign is being financed by Chinese Communist cash. Andy is notifying the Nevada Republican Party that he plans to participate in Nevada’s presidential caucuses in February.

Note: Andy is not on the primary ballot in Florida. Florida has a “rigged” primary which prohibits paying a filing fee or filing petitions to gain ballot access. Only party bosses can place names on the presidential primary ballot. Andy Martin’s emergency petition to the New Hampshire Supreme Court blocked a sale of The Balsams to an out-of-area organization

(CONCORD, NH) (January 9-10, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin is en route to Dixville Notch, NH for the nation’s first voting at The Balsams Hotel later this evening.

“This is a sweet night for us, a celebration really, because it was my legal work that kept The Balsams in local hands. I am still working to protect The Balsams’ employees from the Tillotson Trust. I promised the people of the North Country I would not abandon them, and I will not,” Andy says. “It is a gratifying story of what a presidential candidate can do if they know what to do. I am running for president in New Hampshire on a record of solid performance, not vacuous promises. I am the only candidate that has accomplished something for the people of New Hampshire during the primary election period. I have earned my spot as New Hampshire’s Favorite Son presidential candidate.”

The Merrimack County Superior Court has scheduled a hearing for January 18th on Andy’s ongoing petition to pry loose additional documents from the Tillotson Trust and the New Hampshire Attorney General.

(CONCORD, NH) (January 9, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a Concord, NH news conference Monday morning, January 9th to announce that the Superior Court for Merrimack County has set a hearing on Andy’s lawsuit to “Save The Balsams” from being sold to be dismantled. Andy filed New Hampshire “Right to Know Law” requests that were essentially ignored by the Governor and Attorney General.

“The Balsams” is the landmark New Hampshire hotel where presidential primary voting historically takes place at midnight. Monday afternoon Andy will head to The Balsams at Dixville Notch to be present for the presidential primary voting. The Balsams will only be open for voting and is otherwise closed. A copy of Andy’s letter to the law firm for The Balsams follows below.

“Hundreds of employees are losing their jobs, while the Tillotson Trust’s lawyers enrich themselves,” Andy says. “Trust assets are being maladministered. This is a major New Hampshire scandal and we are developing a permanent presence in the state to protect the public from corrupt and lackadaisical politicians who refuse to defend the public from professional predators.”

Dear Attorney Dutton:

You previously entered an appearance in my New Hampshire Supreme Court case that was dismissed by the court without prejudice to being refiled in the Superior Court. Late in 2011 the case was refiled and the Sheriff has served both the Governor and the Attorney General.

The press of a primary election is not the easiest time to pursue civil litigation but we are doing our best. However, we are working to develop a permanent public interest presence in New Hampshire to ensure that the People of New Hampshire and the People of the North Country who are beneficiaries of the Tillotson Trust are not shortchanged by the trustees, law firms and other hangers on. I have serious concerns about the mismanagement of the Tillotson Trust.

I would very much appreciate it if you would please advise me as to the following issues:

1. Will you be representing the Tillotson Trust in the current lawsuit? Although the AG and Governor are the real parties in interest in a Right-to-Know case, I named your clients as nominal parties out of an abundance of caution due to the potential ancillary relief which is being sought. Do you want to accept service and/or notice on behalf of your clients?

2. We will be issuing a stream of communications to the media concerning your clients’ apparent mismanagement and corruption and recalcitrance to make financial information available about the Tillotson Trust. I previously wrote to your client and have received no response. I am not going away.

Do you wish to be placed on a list to receive those media notices, so you may be aware of them and be prepared to respond, or would you prefer not to be emailed with copies of our media information? We have provisionally placed you on our email list, but will promptly remove you at your request.

3. We normally notify opposing parties by email with the exception of documentary exhibits. Are you willing to accept emailed notices?

4. I do not know yet if New Hampshire judges conduct telephone hearings in court cases. If they do, and a phone hearing is available for the scheduled hearing on January 18th, do you object to my being heard by phone?

5. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me. This Monday and Tuesday (January 9-10) I will be on my cell phone; normally I can be reached through my national headquarters.

While public interest litigation can become adversarial, I always endeavor to treat opposing counsel with professional courtesy and fairness as long as that approach is reciprocated. There is always the possibility we could meet Tuesday to discuss potentially narrowing the issues or trying to reach a reasonable settlement for all parties concerned. Please advise if your clients are interested in pursuing this approach.

Finally, out of an abundance of caution and professional courtesy, I would like to advise you that I will be at your client’s hotel premises for the 2012 presidential primary voting at Dixville Notch Monday evening/Tuesday morning (January 9-10).

(CONCORD, NH) (January 8, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a Concord, NH news conference Sunday morning, January 8th as he leaflets in front of Concord’s Capital Center for the Arts before the NBC News/Meet The Press “debate.” Taking a phrase reform the Hollywood film, Andy has dubbed his campaign team “The Hatebusters.”

Andy will be distributing a campaign flyer that criticizes his presidential campaign opponents for hate speech and the refusal to reject support from extremist groups.

“Ron Paul accepts support from White Supremacists, anti-Semites,
neo-Nazis and a former Klu Klux Klan leader. Why won’t Ron Paul issue a simple statement and say ‘Thanks but no thanks. I categorically reject any and all support from proponents of hate.’ For Paul to merely ‘disagree’ with his supporters while continuing to accept their support is disingenuous.

“Rick Santorum is perhaps the most vocal proponent of starting a war with Iran and plunging our nation into what could become a world war that America has to fight alone. Newt Gingrich has just accepted $5 million in campaign cash from a supporter that also wants to trigger a new war with Iran.

“Gingrich also attacks young Americans who are having difficulties finding a job in our troubled economy, all while Gingrich profits from his lobbying and ‘consulting’ work for special interests. The ‘revolving door’ in Washington is revolving very profitably for Mr. Gingrich. Gingrich often acts as though he hates America because we are unworthy of his great ego.

“‘Hate’ is not the way to defeat Barack Obama this year,” Andy observes. “The Republican Party should reject support from extremists and reject bellicose rhetoric that will only create a more difficult environment. If anyone fires on our sailors or Marines, we should return the fire with a lethal response. We should wipe out any adversary that challenges freedom of the seas. But we should not make threats that are self-defeating and self-destructive to our foreign policy. The commander-in-chief who brings our men and women uniform home, and manages to keep the peace without starting new wars, is the type of leader we need.

“Today the Republican Party is under siege by the ‘Crackos’ and ‘Wackos.’ On the one hand we have the crackpots led by Ron Paul that want to shut down our national role and withdraw to Fortress America. That approach is childlike in its naiveté and unsustainable in reality. On the other hand we have the Wackos such as Gingrich and Santorum that want to start a war with Iran. We cannot afford to allow Barack Obama to campaign as the ‘adult’ in foreign policy. If we make that mistake, we lose in 2012.

“When I announced my candidacy in December, 2010 I promised to ‘drive the agenda’ in the presidential campaign. I came out against Northern Pass last year and marched over 40 miles to demonstrate my opposition. I was the only presidential candidate to take a stand against Northern Pass. Now more candidates are glomming on to my position in the closing days of the campaign. My foresight has been vindicated. My sound judgment on behalf of the people of New Hampshire has been confirmed. Saving ‘The Balsams’ and stopping the looting of the Tillotson Trust is another ‘campaign’ I will continue to wage as New Hampshire’s Favorite Son.”

At approximately 9:30 A.M. Andy will head for church services at the Episcopal Church in downtown Concord.

Andy has also joined the Concord Cooperative Market. “Fighting Northern Pass and saving the Tillotson Trust from its greedy predators and faithless trustees is going to require a long-term commitment,” Andy says. “I will not abandon the people of New Hampshire on January 11th. There is much more work to be done. Supporting local agriculture will be a part of my ongoing commitment to New Hampshire, which is why I have joined the Concord Cooperative Market.”

Sunday afternoon Andy will hold a Concord news conference to criticize Newt Gingrich for running a “corrupt campaign.”

(NEW YORK) (January 7, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a Concord, NH news conference Friday evening, January 7th to release his new radio ad attacking Ron Paul. (The ad is attached to email versions of this news release) The ad has been running on New Hampshire radio stations since Wednesday as part of a pre-primary saturation buy.

Andy will also attack an ad by Ron Paul’s New Hampshire supporters calling Jon Huntsman the “Manchurian candidate.” “I am obviously not a supporter of Jon Huntsman,” Andy says, “But Paul’s New Hampshire supporters are a disgrace to New Hampshire. They are guttersnipes. As New Hampshire’s unofficial ‘Favorite Son’ in the presidential primary I condemn Ron Paul and suggest he leave the state. New Hampshire is a robust place and tough, hard-hitting politics is nothing new. But attacking a man because of his children is a new low by the Paul campaign.

“And once again we see a familiar pattern at work. Paul’s extremist supporters come out of the woodwork and spew their venom, and Paul (in this instance) criticizes the ad after it has done its damage. Attacking Huntsman’s children is one of the more despicable acts of the current presidential campaign. When is Paul going to disassociate himself from his menagerie of lunatic fringe supporters, his neo-Nazis, racists, White Supremacists and anti-Semites?

“Ron Paul is not a Republican and the liberal media are using the real ‘Manchurian Candidate,’ Ron Paul, to destroy the Republican Party’s presidential prospects in 2012. In 2008, Ron Paul opposed the Republican Party’s presidential candidate and supported a fringe candidate. Why is the Republican Party allowing this anti-Republican to tear the party apart from within? ‘Can anyone here play this game?’”

Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin says he cannot understand why Governor Mitt Romney is allowing Jennifer Horn to hold herself out as a representative of Romney’s campaign. Andy says Horn has domestic alcohol and drug problems and needs to attend to those. Andy and Jennifer first tangled when Horn gratuitously attacked Andy on aConcordradio station. Horn claimed to be attacking Andy as a Representative of defrocked state chairman Jack Kimball.

Andy and Jennifer Horn may tangle Wednesday evening at College Convention 2012

(CONCORD, NH) (January 4, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin and discredited New Hampshire dingbat Jennifer Horn may tangle at College Convention 2012 in Concord Wednesday evening.

“I do not understand why Mitt Romney allows Horn to hold herself out as a representative of the Romney campaign,” Andy says. “Students may get a chance Wednesday night to see what a political convention really looks like. Horn has a family history of drug and alcohol abuse. That’s hardly the image Mitt Romney wants to convey to primary voters. Horn and Ron Paul are the ones who are really ‘perfect together.’ Ron favors legalizing drugs and alcohol.”

Horn gratuitously attacked Andy on a Concord radio station in February, claiming she was acting as the representative of discredited former Republican State Chairman Jack Kimball. Kimball was removed in August. Since then Andy has responded to Horn’s attack by asking a New Hampshire court to convict Horn’s son of vehicular drug and alcohol abuse. Horn’s son copped a plea.

“Mrs. Horn represents the unfortunate hypocrisy of some conservatives. They rail against drug and alcohol abuse in public, while abusing drugs and alcohol in private. Horn Family values? Hrrrfrmph. Bartender, make it a ‘Mother/Son’ cocktail.

“I am attending College Convention 2012 as a presidential candidate and Mrs. Horn has been identified and billed as a representative of Mitt Romney. It looks like Romney’s ‘vetters’ slipped up on Horn.

“Horn’s topic is ‘What’s At Stake?’” Andy notes. “What’s at stake is Mitt Romney’s judgment in allowing Jennifer Horn to present herself as a Romney campaign leader. Maybe Romney should learn how to use Google. Mrs. Horn needs to be home helping her son detox and stay off the highways.

“I have great respect for Governor Romney but his choice of Jennifer Horn as representative is unfortunate,” Andy says.

Andy’s “fighting camp” is now established in Concord. Andy will be ramping up his campaign in the closing days of the primary race. Andy’s 30-minute TV program is being shown all week on WMUR-TV and will also run again at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday January 8th.

Andy is expected to unleash a series of actions this week concerning the historic Balsams Hotel at Dixville Notch, as well as reaffirming his opposition to PSNH’s Northern Pass high voltage line proposal. Andy will be lacerating Ron Paul and Rick Santorum.
