Andy is fighting to give 13th congressional district Republican Party voters a chance to choose their congressional candidate; he is working to block county chairman from participating in a corrupt scheme with Congressman Tim Johnson to avoid a primary election for selecting the party’s nominee for congress

(CHICAGO) (May 19, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin says John Shimkus is a “toxic congressman” for Illinois Republicans and for theSouthern Illinois district where Shimkus serves.

Shimkus is now trying to strong-arm a congressional nomination for his slimy assistant, Rodney Davis. Andy says that Rodney Davis is more likely to end up in the federal pen inWisconsin(whereIllinoispols are sent) than he is to end up in Congress. Here are Andy’s views:

Rodney Davis’s handiwork, whichDavisbrags about in his campaign appearances, involves a sophisticated money laundering and mail fraud scheme to evadeIllinois’ new campaign contribution laws.Davisadmits he organized and orchestrated the money laundering operation, so prosecutors will have an easy time sending him to jail.

The money laundering scandal, as reported by Doug Ibendahl of Republican News Watch, and Bernie Schoenburg of the State-Journal Register, involves Ken Griffin, founder and CEO of  Citadel LLC, an investment firm.Griffin’s wife, Anne Dias Griffin, founded and runs Aragon Global Management. (I have not done any original investigation on this criminal conspiracy, yet; I am relying on Schoenburg and Ibendahl as sources. But, as always, I will be doing the original legal work and preparing the approach to federal and state prosecutors.)

Prosecutors will find this case more “sexy” because of the presence of the Griffins than because of the liability of Rodney Davis who concocted the scheme with State Republican Chairman Pat Brady. Here’s how the criminal conspiracy and mail fraud scheme operated (see the two links below for a detailed explanation): the Griffins donated to a number of fringe Republican Party political committees. Giving money is not illegal even though the Griffins’ choice of committees was very suspicious. What comes next is the nexus of a federal criminal case.

The Griffins combined to donate more than $200,000 to more than 10 Illinois GOP organizations, including GOP committees in Logan, Douglas, Fayette, Madison andRichlandcounties. Those “committees” then steered more than $120,000 of the Griffins’ cash to the Illinois Republican Party in the first three months of this year. Toadies ofCountyChairman’s Association “Chairman” Randy Pollard were invited into the money laundering scheme and are also at risk.

UnderIllinoislaw, campaign contributions may not be made anonymously or in the name of another person or through a conduit such as the county chairmen.

Here’s the sad part: a group of sleazy and corrupt Republican Party chairmen placed Rodney Davis’ name on a list of “finalists” for a congressional nomination which is tainted by the bogus resignation of incumbent Tim Johnson. I have a pending lawsuit inMacoupinCountyseeking to block Johnson’s scheme. My lawsuit has already had the salutary impact of forcing Pat Brady to step down as “chairman” of the corrupt county chairmen’s “selection committee.” We won the first round.

How can someone such as Davis, who is involved in an open-and-shut case of money laundering and obvious federal and state criminal activity, be a prime candidate for congress? Only inIllinois. One of the county chairmen “voters,” County Chairman Deb Detmers, received immunity for her role in the criminal schemes of Shimkus and imprisoned Governor George Ryan. Only inIllinoiscan someone who was granted immunity from criminal prosecution then be a party leader (see story link below).

The county chairmen are led by anotherIllinoispolitical thief and crook, Randy Pollard, who was a prison guard before closeted gay Senator Mark Kirk appointed Pollard to be his “office manger.” (The Pollard-Kirk connection is another federal criminal case in the making.) Kirk likes to pretend he is “above the fraud” but, notwithstanding his recent stroke, Kirk is involved inIllinoiscorruption with Pollard, Shimkus, Davis and the rest up to Kirk’s eyeballs. Kirk is a sleazy little critter though he tries to pretend otherwise in Washington and Tel Aviv.

Shimkus is one of the most corrupt congressmen inWashington. He and Kirk were part of the cover-up of Congressman Mark Foley’s sexual harassment scandal involving Foley’s importunation of teenage congressional pages. Shimkus’ job was to protect the children in his employ; instead Shimkus allowed the Republican Party’s gay mafia in the House of representatives to molest the children and to disgrace the House.

The sliminess of Shimkus, Kirk, former House Speaker Dennis Hastert and their coat-holders cost the Republican Party control of Congress in 2006. But Shimkus and his degenerate associates are still in business, this time trying to scam a congressional nomination forDavis, another leading member of Shimkus’ criminal crew.

Is it any wonder the State ofIllinoishas become a laughingstock, that the state is hundreds of billions of dollars in debt after being plundered by both Republicans and Democrats, and thatIllinoiscontinues to lead the nation in political corruption and criminality? They are all part and parcel of the same wolf pack.

Monday I will be asking a judge to block the latest perverted acts of Randy Pollard and his country chairman. Their “nomination” is fatally tainted and legally void. I want Republican Party voters to have a voice and a real vote. My lawsuit seeks to undo the sleazy “retirement” of Representative Tim Johnson. Johnson has his own creepy hound, Jerry Clarke, in the dishonest “campaign” to anoint a congressional nomination in violation of the U. S. Constitution andIllinoisprimary election laws.

Stay tuned. I may not announce my request on Monday, but I will be asking federal and state prosecutors to consider criminal prosecution. I am working on the criminal case as well as my own civil lawsuit to mandate a primary election for the congressional replacement. Neither Clarke nor Davis will make it to the House if I have anything to say about it.

“We landed inHonoluluWednesday evening. We announced our latest trip in early March. Obama is feeling the pressure of our new investigations. Our new disclosures expose Obama as a liar and fraud and other authors such as Maraniss are confirming my own research and writing. Obama has become a worldwide laughingstock (link below).

“Obama makes psychologically challenged President Richard Nixon look like an open book. Obama lied from the first day he appeared on theIllinoispolitical scene, he lied his way onto the national stage, and he lied his way into the White House.

“A leader must be trusted. But how can you trust a man that lies about every aspect of his life, who fabricates every phase of his experience, who presents a paper maché portrait of himself—and labels it all ‘autobiography?’

“How many ‘composite characters’ does it take to move a book from fact to fiction?  What is true about Obama’s ‘Hawai’iyears,’ and what is fiction? That’s what I am in Honolulu to find out.

“Is there any doubt the mainstream media lied to the American people in 2008? Is there any doubt why the American people do not trust either Obama or his mainstream media megaphone?

“The media are now trying to cover-up their own fraudulent practices by belatedly claiming Obama disclosed in the introduction to his book that some ‘characters’ were composite. True, but misleading. Obama never disclosed in his book who was a real person and who was a composite. The reader was left to guess what was truthful and what was imaginary. In an autobiography?

“My own mother asked me last month, ‘Why go back toHawai’i; don’t we already know all there is to know aboutHawai’i?’ The answer was ‘no’ we don’t. My research team, unlike Donald Trump’s imaginary ‘investigators,’ is actually here and actually investigating. For doubting Thomas’, they can ‘touch me’ if they require a Jesuitical confirmation of my actual presence inHawai’i.

“Eight years ago I began breaking news about Obama. No one wanted to believe. Eight years later I am still breaking news.

“And, by the way, although the ‘Israel’ aspects of the 2004 news conference are beyond the scope of today’s news conference, I predicted in 2004 that Obama would pose a threat toIsrael. How’s that for a 100% accurate crystal ball?” Andy asks. “Maraniss, David Remnick and others are decent authors. But my analysis and interpretation of Obama’s character has been peerless when to comes to exposing who Obama really is to the American people.

(NEW YORK)(April 25, 2012) Eight years after Independent Republican Presidential Candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin became Barack Obama’s first critic, and four years after Andy landed in Honolulu with the first independent investigative team, Andy is set to return to Honolulu on May 2nd, 2012 to lead Andy’s latest research and investigation operartion in Hawai’i.

Andy may have been the first name on Barack Obama’s enemies list; but through all of Obama’s counterattacks, lies, smears and distortions Andy has kept searching only for the truth and kept trying only to find the facts about President Barack Hussein Obama. In Hawai’i Obama, as a teenager, was known as “Barry,” not Barack.

Come August, Andy’s status as a Republican presidential candidate will end. Andy plans to endorse and support Mitt Romney. Until then Andy will continue to press Romney & Co. to prepare and present a vigorous case against President Obama. (PALM BEACH) (April 23, 2012) Republican Presidential candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin says he is outraged at the Obama’s administration’s latest groveling to a foreign dictator. Andy says Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should be impeached. At the very least Clinton should be censured by the U. S. House of Representatives and found in contempt of congress. Andy says:

I thought I had seen the lowest of the low from the Clintons, and I thought Obama had stopped bowing and groveling to foreign dictators. But I was wrong. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s actions today have triggered a constitutional crisis. Clinton has stabbed Congress in the back and Clinton has stabbed every American in the back.

Congress, moreover, has disgraced itself. The spineless representatives (and senators?) who dumped one of their own in genuflection to the crooked Afghan leader Hamid Karzai’s demand that an American be barred from Afghanistan are a disgrace in their own right. First, a couple of thoughts.

Number one, I am not a particular admirer of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher. He’s not my cup of tea. But Rohrabacher is a subcommittee chairman in the U. S. House and he is entitled to the deference due every member of congress. Many people don’t like Rohrabacher’s style. I respect their right to their own opinion. But like or dislike is not the issue.

Number two, if there is one sacrosanct principle in American culture it is that we are “all for one and one for all.”

That’s why our troops do not leave dead comrades behind in battle. That’s why we are still searching for Viet-Nam and Korean-era dead. We never abandon one of our men or women. An attack on any American is an attack on every American. That’s the source of our national strength. Today our great nation was humiliated by Hillary Clinton and Hamid Karzai.

Clinton “grounded” a congressional oversight flight on the basis that the Afghan crook and dictator Hamid Karzai did not want Rep. Rohrabacher in Afghanistan. They left Rohrabacher behind.

Rep. Rohrabacher is an official American and his right to travel to areas where Americans are fighting and dying should not be questioned by Hillary Clinton. The executive branch does not order around the legislative branch.

Democrats say they want to run Hillary for president in 2016? I say Clinton should be impeached as a traitor to congress and a traitor to every American.

The idea that “dictator” Clinton should ground a congressional flight is an almost unbelievable. The executive branch does not and cannot be allowed to control congressional oversight.

Every representative and every senator that was on Rohrabacher’s flight should have refused to go forward unless all of them could travel together. They betrayed the independence of congress when they dumped one of their own and genuflected to Clinton and her Afghan “handler.”

Since 2006 I have been warning Republicans and Americans that Afghanistan is a sinkhole. We are pouring blood and treasure into a gutter. The flights out of Kabul bulge with satchels of American taxpayer cash. So let me see if I get this right. We borrow money from China to send to Afghanistan. Karzai and his cronies then steal the cash and dump it in Persian Gulf banks. What’s wrong with this picture?

I am often asked if I am “still” a candidate for president. Well, yes I am. What happened today is the reason. I am still running a campaign to ensure Mitt Romney keeps his spine. I will be in Tampa asking Republicans to dump Karzai.

Obama is now promising another decade of wasted blood and wasted “Cash for Karzai.” Are we crazy? Subsidizing this thief is insanity. America’s foreign policy and hard-working Americans should not be pouring resources into Afghanistan. Congress should not be groveling to Karzai. Once again Obama has fumbled and failed in foreign policy.

As I said above, my outrage would be just as strong if they had barred Rep. Barney Frank, or Senator Charles Schumer, whom I do not like. But I would never hesitate to defend their right to participate in congressional oversight without interference from the White House/Secretary of State. I would never, never, never, ever allow a scumbag like Karzai to disgrace the United States of America or its Congress by dictating to our Secretary of State.

As a scholar the United States Constitution I am outraged by Clinton’s disrespect for the Constitution.

Mittens, it’s time for us to bring the troops home. Where do you stand on Obama’s and Clinton’s disgraceful behavior? You say you “support” Afghanistan, but what is it that you “support” and how do you propose to deal with a crook and enemy of the United States like Karzai? How indeed.

Brave American men and women are fighting in Afghanistan. But cowards were on the congressional flight that took off without Representative Rohrabacher. Hillary Clinton was an enemy of America in the 60’s and 70’s. She is still an enemy of the American people and should be removed from office. For shame.

Andy says Obama has allowed the Secret service controversy to become a circus that has spiraled out of control and risks damaging the agency and the presidency. Re: Secret Service scandal

Dear President Obama:

I am writing you to ask you to reconsider how you have handled the so-called “Secret Service” scandal. I believe you should offer an amnesty/no retaliation pledge to all employees, offer to reemploy anyone who has been dismissed, and impose administrative punishment short of dismissal on anyone who acted poorly.

I start with one of the great quotes of the late Speaker Sam Rayburn, who famously stated he wished someone on the White House staff “had run for sheriff.” Rayburn’s meaning was that abstract intellectuals and professional “staff” people often lacked the streetwise attitude of people who had lived and worked in the real—and very imperfect—world.

1. How can I give advice to a political opponent?

You might ask: how or why would I give advice to a political opponent? You have known of me for eight years, and there is no doubt in your mind where I stand on the political and public policy issues which divide us. I am a conservative Republican.

On the other hand, I am concerned that the Secret Service scandal you have created may damage the agency, may endanger the White House and could jeopardize your presidency. Where issues involving the presidency are concerned we should be able to work together.

2. The “warrior culture”

Most of the people on your staff, and you personally, lack any familiarity with the military culture or what I call the “warrior culture.” The Secret Service is a paramilitary agency with a warrior culture. They are not paid to be strategists (except when they are planning presidential security). They are people—whether in the uniformed service or the presidential detail—who must unquestioningly “take a bullet” for the president without regard to their own lives. That’s a pretty tough assignment. That’s an exemplar of the warrior culture.

3. The original mess

I have never patronized a prostitute and find the concept repellent. Had I been in charge, I would have cautioned the men (and any women on the detail) to be cautious and avoid anything risky while “in country.” That’s a standard briefing.

But I have also lived in the warrior culture and understand how people who risk their lives for a living think. They don’t think like lawyers sitting in their offices. They are prone to rambunctious behavior. Did anyone say “wheels up, rings off?”

4. Why you mishandled the incident

We need warriors in our society. We need them in our military and intelligence establishments. We can never repay them for risking their lives and losing their lives, which is why we honor them publicly with medals and uniforms and ribbons, and also offer generous benefits. But supervising warriors, whether in the field or in the home office, is never and should never be an easy or rote task. Warriors are trained to be aggressive.

If people are placid in the office they will not take risks in the field. The kind of person who is prepared to risk his or her life is by definition and nature a little edgy and rambunctious.

If you had simply used the “No Drama Obama” approach for which you were once noted, and stated, “Some people got out of hand. I wish that hadn’t happened. We will deal with any problems quietly and internally,” the matter would be long gone. “Spankings maybe administered but no heads will roll” should have been the punitive promise.

If you had handled the issue coolly no one would now remember the Secret Service embarrassment last week. Your statement of potential “anger” created a firestorm, and that firestorm is endangering the agency, risking White House Security and undermining your own role. The issue would have simply dissolved; instead it has become a corrosive media circus.

Politically, I suspect we will see books and exposés that may present your tenure in an unflattering light. The potential personal and political damage could be substantial, all for what should have been treated as a “spanking” incident and not a “heads will role” crisis. Your instincts failed you and no one on your staff gave you the cool advice you needed to deal with a few missteps by your warriors.

5. What you should do now

A confession of error is the best approach. I would urge you to consider quietly reinstating the men that have been dismissed, with an admonishment or some other administrative warning in their file but no dismissal or retaliation; I would extend an amnesty to anyone who was involved, either Secret Service or military; I would tell the media you may have inadvertently overreacted and that the Secret Service brouhaha is over; I would ask congressional committees to either close their inquiries or conduct them under national security standards. I would suggest to the Director that perhaps the manual of standards should be amended to include recommendations on what to do when you are not on the clock but on assignment in the field.

There was undoubtedly a management and supervision failure, and I would encourage conversation and openness, instead of a reign of terror in which careers are destroyed and families are endangered. But as the matter stands today your failure compounded what was an initially limited incident.

And, finally, I would hire someone for your staff who has run for sheriff.

(CHICAGO) (April 19, 2012) Calling the three congressman “congressional cockroaches” who “shot an arrow into the air” to defeat Congressman Adam Kinzinger and ended up hitting Congressman Don Manzullo, Republican Presidential candidate, Illinois corruption-fighter and conservative blogger Andy Martin will hold a Palm Beach, Florida news conference Thursday, April 19th to announce he has filed a Macoupin County, Illinois lawsuit to invalidate the results of the March 20th primary for the 13th congressional district Republican Party nomination.

“Both parties have congressional cockroaches,” Andy says. “These are men and women who put their own selfish politics against the best interests of their party. John Shimkus is notorious as the ‘child abuser congressman’ who supervised congressional pages and allowed Mark Foley to molest them. Shimkus was one of the reasons Republicans lost congress in 2006. Shimkus is a blight on the Republican Party’s integrity and ethics.

“In the case of Illinois’ 13th congressional district the schemes and machinations of John Shimkus, Tim Johnson and Randy Hultgren have backfired. Johnson-Shimkus-Hultgren wanted to get rid of the threat posed by Representative Adam Kinzinger so they schemed to ensure Kinzinger would not run in the new 13th congressional district.

“If Johnson had announced his retirement before the primary filing period, in all probability Kinzinger would have moved into the 13th, where he previously sat on the McLean County Board, to avoid a primary with Don Manzullo. Instead, to block Kinzinger and to promote their own special candidates who were not strong enough to take on Kinzinger in a 13th district primary, Johnson acted as a ‘front’ and conducted a sham ‘reelection’ campaign to hold the seat through the primary so the nomination could be filled by Republican Party insiders after the primary.

“The behavior of Republican Party leaders is disgraceful but no surprise. Utterly corrupt State Party Chairman Pat Brady jumped into the 13th district with a ‘legal opinion’ by his stooge John Fogarty. Fogarty ‘advised’ that Brady could ignore state law and declare himself a ‘chairman’ of the replacement selection committee. Brady claims to be acting to avoid an ‘odor’ when in fact Brady’s behavior smells just as bad as that of any of the other conspirators. These people are so greedy to advance their own selfish agendas they jeopardize Republican control of the congressional seat.

“Hultgren is also compromising his public trust by offering what appears to be a partial ‘no-show’ job to Jerry Clarke, one of the ‘insider’ candidates to replace Johnson. Hultgren is apparently breaking the law and may be committing criminal acts. Hultgren has refused my offer to provide an explanation for his unusual behavior. Clarke, who claims to be Hultgren’s ‘chief of staff,’ lives 150 miles from Hultgren’s nearest office. That’s not the way congressional chiefs of staff operate.

“I have asked the circuit court to invalidate Johnson’s bogus primary and to order a new election in which all candidates can participate in an honest and open election. My ‘contribution’ to the People of Illinois: 47 years of public integrity and 47 years of fighting the endemic political corruption in this state. This latest lawsuit is just one more battle in the endless war against corruption in Illinois. We need to teach Johnson, Shimkus, Hultgren and their coat-holding toadies a lesson,” Andy says. “These cockroaches need to be driven out of public office and out of the Republican Party.”

(CHICAGO) (April 19, 2012) Republican Presidential candidate, New Hampshire corruption-fighter and conservative blogger Andy Martin won a landmark court victory in the New Hampshire Superior Court when Justice Larry M. Smuckler ruled in Andy’s favor and forced the New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney to release files concerning the sale of Tillotson Trust property which Delaney was fighting to keep secret.

Andy is based in Chicago and New York (see bio below) and now maintains a public service office in New Hampshire.

“During the course of the presidential primary campaign and in my final message to New Hampshire citizens (the video is available on my web site, see above) I promised New Hampshire residents I would not abandon my public service efforts on their behalf after the primary.

“I conducted a Superior Court hearing on January 18th, and Justice Smuckler thereafter ruled in my favor concerning the release of documents involving the sale of The Balsams. (Justice Smuckler also ruled financial reports were subject to an exemption, and that statutory exemption concerns me.)

“I continue to believe the Tillotson Trust is being corrupted and mismanaged to benefit insiders and in violation of the intent of Mr. Tillotson who created the Trust. I am also convinced the New Hampshire Attorney General is failing to properly administer and supervise the Charitable Trust Unit and has engaged in fraudulent and corrupt official conduct.

“Nevertheless, I won a landmark victory when Justice Smuckler ruled that the secret files concerning the purported ‘sale’ of the landmark hotel, The Balsams, must be disclosed. I have received those documents and they are being reviewed by my office. The Attorney General had tried to bar me from examining The Balsams sale records.

“My political activity is based on a 46 year record of public service and public integrity. I made promises in New Hampshire and I kept those promises. I will continue to keep those promises to the People of New Hampshire. We will soon be back marching against the Northern Pass high voltage line proposal. The investigation of Tillotson Trust corruption and maladministration will continue, as will our efforts to seek justice and to expose the New Hampshire Attorney General’s corrupt activity.

“The fact that I prevailed in a New Hampshire court in a face-to-face confrontation with the Attorney General’s office attests to the strength of my legal arguments, my preparation and my courtroom presentation. I do not exaggerate or inflate my litigation experience. Not many lawyers could manage and conduct litigation in courts from one end of the nation to the other.

“In a few days we will be in Hawai’i fighting to open the public records of that state. Stay tuned.

“Candidates like to tout their experience. I am probably the most successful public interest lawyer in America today and am handling cases from Hawai’i to New Hampshire. “My dinner with Mike Wallace”

Republican Presidential candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin writes about the night he was seated next to Mike and Mary Wallace for dinner

Andy says that before Mike Wallace helped create the 60 Minutes franchise Mike was the quintessential local Chicago broadcaster

(NEW YORK) (April 15, 2012) Legendary CBS newsman Mike Wallace died last week. But before he was Mike Wallace he was Myron Wallace, a quintessential outsider who became a well-known local Chicago broadcaster and pitchman. Chris Wallace will have a retrospective about his dad on Fox News today (Sunday) but he may not dwell on his father’s Chicago years. Wallace’s death has drawn attention because of his colorful life and the franchise he helped create with CBS’ Sixty Minutes.

I once had dinner with Mike and Mary Wallace. Entirely by accident. It was an unusual evening.

Most of my readers start reading because of my role as a political candidate or political analyst. Many of them stay on and keep reading because of my connections to many interesting events and persons of the past half century. My “dinner with Mike Wallace” is an example.

Someone (I don’t remember who) organized a dinner at the Park Avenue Armory in New York for people who had been in Viet-Nam and I was invited to attend. The dinner took place (I believe) in November, 1986. I had two tickets for the dinner. My lady friend of that period and I had just broken up, but I told her the tickets were already paid for and would she still like to come along? She said yes.

When I got to the Park Avenue Armory I found myself seated next to Mike and Mary Wallace. Mike and Mary had just been married and they were still a new (and in Mary’s case vivacious) couple.

When Mike heard I was from Chicago that opened a flood-gate of reminiscences about Chicago in the 1940’s and 50’s when Mike, then Myron Wallace, had been a big man in Chicago broadcasting. The people Mike had known in their younger years were middle-aged or older by the time I arrived in Chicago in 1968, but there was a great continuity between our Chi-town experiences.

The more we gabbed the more I realized that Mike represented the essence of America. He had gone to Chicago as an unknown Myron Wallace, reinvented himself into a well known pitchman and personality in broadcasting circles, and created a comfortable and profitable niche in what was then the Second City. Then he reinvented himself a second time and left for New York, a vastly more challenging media mountain. And succeeded again. As Mike Wallace.

In the mid-1960’s Wallace reinvented himself a third time. Most of us know the “third” Mike Wallace and think his career began in 1968 with Sixty Minutes. But Wallace was well along in years (by then in his 50’s) when Sixty Minutes launched. When he headed for New York Mike had left behind a colorful legacy and colorful recollections of Chicago after World War II. In New York Mike initially created the persona of the confrontational noir inquisitor (in Chicago Wallace had worked with a lighter touch) and continued as a commercial pitchman. Eventually Mike absorbed the gravitas of mid-century CBS News and became a broadcasting institution.

Today America has become a homogenized nation. Regional accents are gradually disappearing, regional cooking is gradually going national, and our “regions” are gradually merging into a big national blob. All of this standardization has taken place because of TV network broadcasting. Most people don’t realize that back at the beginning of the broadcasting age, Chicago had a very different personality from New York; regions had regional differences and we were not yet just one big national “market.” But the individuality of Chicago and Wallace’s prominence there made his abandonment of Chicago and his quest to New York all the more amazing.

Mike apparently didn’t talk much about his Chicago years after he became a star in New York. But as our dinner continued I conducted a “mini-Mike Wallace” on Mike Wallace and drew out his past experiences in Chicago with hoodlum politicians, crooked lawyers and other colorful personalities in mid-century Chicago. His new wife Mary enjoyed hearing about a part of Mike’s life that she was only vaguely aware of.

Eventually Mike and I segued over to discussing Viet-Nam. I was more reticent about my role there but we had shared common experiences and I told him about watching his colleague Morley Safer in the field. (Wallace had gone to Viet-Nam in early 1967 but never went back for an extended period thereafter). I told Mike the NBC News bureau chief in Chicago had offered me a job but he didn’t want me going back to Viet-Nam, so I declined the offer. Mike chided me for almost selling out to the competition.

Although Mike subsequently disclosed that he had suffered from depression, and it seems to have been serious after he and Mary married (though not due to their marriage) he gave no hint of any unhappiness or distress during our dinner in 1986.

An exceptionally pleasant evening eventually came to an end. But there was one more unexpected aspect. As Mike and I were walking and talking and leaving the dining room, a woman rushed up to me and threw a glass of red wine in my face. It was Hillary Brown, formerly of NBC News, who was still angry at me because I had saved her life years earlier in Iran. The wine splattered across my face, shirt, tie and suit and added an intriguing flourish to the evening. It was the kind of gesture Mike appreciated. The four of us continued to walk downstairs and out into the night.

(CHICAGO) (APRIL 12, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate and Illinois corruption-fighter Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Friday, April 13th to announce he is planning and preparing to file suit to block Representative Tim Johnson from transferring his congressional nomination to Republican Party insiders.

Andy has launched his “campaign” by demanding that Congressman Randy Hultgren provide full documentation for the conditions under which Hultgren’s “chief of staff” is working 150 miles from Hultgren’s nearest congressional sub-office.

“When Democrats pull dirty deals, such as the Lipinski family’s transfer of their ‘hereditary’ congressional seat in 2004, Republicans scream. But then Republicans turn around and pull the same dirty tricks. It is clear that Representative Tim Johnson ran a scam campaign, a sham effort when he knew he planned to step aside and hand his ‘nomination’ over to political insiders in the corrupt Republican Party leadership.

“Once again Illinois’ ‘media’ are asleep. Where are the downstate editorials protesting this theft of the electoral process, this fraud on the voters? Nowhere. Downstate newspapers are no longer ‘media’ in any recognizable sense of the term. They are asleep.

“Ever since I went to the Illinois General Assembly as an intern in the 1965 session I have been working to fight political corruption in both parties. Both political parties in Illinois are crooked to the core. Taxpayers get screwed, voters get screwed, businesses get screwed and the great traditions of a great state have been raped so often that Illinois is no longer a great state. Illinois is politically prostrate and financially bankrupt.

“If Representative Johnson wanted to retire he should have stepped aside and allowed voters to choose his replacement. The scam of getting renominated so you can pass the nomination to insiders appears to violate the U. S. Constitution, and it also falls afoul of a recently-enacted state law (Public Act 97-0681) which is designed to protect political scam artists such as Johnson from being challenged by honest candidates after a bogus and fixed primary.

“I will be asking the court to fix the costs of conducting a new primary election on Representative Johnson, and I will ask that either the state or the party conduct a new primary election which is monitored by an outside entity such as local clerks or an independent auditing firm.

“There is no way the Republican Party can ever retake power in Springfield if it uses the same sleazy tactics as the Democrats. Republicans claim to hold themselves to higher standards; well I am holding my party to higher standards. I am holding the Republican Party to the standards set by the U. S. Constitution, which requires elections, not appointments to the U. S. House,” Andy says. “Ironically, I was a friend of Tim’s dad. Bob Johnson was a straight shooter. I liked and admired Bob, and I liked and admired his son, Tim. Bob would be just as irritated as I am by Tim’s abuse of the public trust.”

Dear Representative Hultgren:

This letter is directed at your congressional office because my concerns relate to your performance in office and not your conduct as a political candidate.

By way of introduction first went t work on Capitol hill 46 years ago, and I have been on and off the Hill since then. I am familiar with the management of congressional offices. I have never heard of a “chief of staff” that lives hundreds of miles from a member’s district.

Jerry Clarke is identified as your current “chief staff” although Clarke also claims to live in Urbana, approximately 150 miles from your nearest congressional sub-office.

I realize that the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) does not apply to congress. FOIA is another law that congress has not made applicable to the conduct of its affairs.

Nevertheless, I am making a de facto FOIA request for you to release full and complete information and documentation concerning Mr. Clarke’s work performance in your congressional office as “chief of staff.” Specifically, I would like to review emails to and from Mr. Clarke, travel vouchers for Clarke, telephone records to and from Clarke (e.g., to Urbana?) and any documentation for any services performed by Clarke in one of your actual congressional offices as opposed to telephone and telecommuting activity.

The manner in which Clarke segued to your office, and is now segueing out, raises serious questions in my mind about whether Clarke has either a partially or fully “no-show” staff job. Certainly in 46 years of watching congress I heave never heard of another “chief of staff” that lives hundreds of miles from the district he claims to serve. I am particularly suspicious because o the manner in which Representative Johnson ran for reelection and then announced his retirement so the congressional nominee would be chosen by political bosses and not by the voters. Johnson’s “reelection” campaign was a fraud and charade.

Illinois politics smells, and the Johnson-Clarke-Davis-etc. appointment scam smells and gives the Republican Party a bad name.

I am planning and preparing to file a federal civil rights lawsuit in state court to block the transfer of Representative Johnson’s nomination, and to require a new primary election in which voters—and not political insiders—will make the choice. I believe that is what the Constitution of the United States mandates.

Although I am campaigning around the United States I still have observers who monitor political corruption so I may stand ready to fight against the corrupt insider politics of both political parties in Illinois.
