Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a New York news conference Monday evening, October 10th, as he spends Monday night at Occupy Wall Street/Zuccotti Park. “I believe in outreach to our supporters, and I believe in outreach to the ‘opposition,’” Andy says. “That’s what a true leader does. My opposing presidential campaign candidates are politicians. I am an experienced leader. The Gipper would have supported my efforts. He was a leader. America needs a leader, not a politician, in the White House. Is Obama a leader? Are any of the other Republican presidential candidates a leader?”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW YORK PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN NEWS CONFERENCE
ATTENTION NATIONAL AND NEW YORK DAYBOOK/ASSIGNMENT EDITORS
Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will “spend the night” with Occupy Wall Street/Zuccotti Park protesters
Andy will spend Monday evening sleeping with the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters “as an outreach gesture” and says “Many of them are probably the children of Republican parents”
Martin says that if he is elected president, “The protesters will be welcome to set up camp on the South Lawn of the White House”
(NEW YORK) (October 10, 2011) Corruption-fighting Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a 10:30 P.M. New York City news conference Monday, October 10th as he continues his “listening tour” of Zuccotti Park and makes arrangements to spend Monday night with “Occupy Wall Street” protesters.
“It is clear that I am the only Republican presidential candidate that speaks to our urban areas and is comfortable in our urban areas,” Andy said in announcing his “night at Wall Street.” “As a former adjunct professor at City University of New York I rode the subways to work in an era which is now considered ‘glamorous’ but was a living hell at the time. My home is in Chicago.
“I am disappointed at the vitriol directed at the protesters by Fox News and other Republican presidential candidates.
“Ironically, I was an early guest on Hannity and Colmes 15 years ago. I also helped Fox News by providing coverage for them in Palm Beach. Although I wasn’t invited to any of the 15-year celebrations I think Fox is a positive addition to the media environment. But I saw Geraldo Rivera Sunday trying to bait the protesters, trying to get confrontational video. More power to him.
“One of the hallmarks of my campaign and one of the hallmarks of my conservative agenda to restore America is my belief in ‘humility.’ As a Christian I know tens of millions of Americans are suffering. The world is suffering. I am a conservative Republican who believes that we can still work hard to help every American ‘make it through the night.’ That’s why I am spending Monday night at Zuccotti Park with the Occupy Wall Street protesters. It’s the Christian thing to do.
“I have nothing to fear from the protesters and Republicans have nothing to fear. Fear comes from ignorance and lack of valor. I am not ignorant and I do not lack for valor. I also believe that overall the conservative philosophy is preferable to the labor union/public employee union agenda that is being used to envelop the protesters. But I will listen to everyone.
“I am going to Zuccotti Park to be there, to listen to people, and to let them know there are two sides to the political debate over how we rebuild and restore America. I believe we need banks that are accountable and responsible, but I believe in banks. Period. I am not closing my bank account.
“I also share the view of the protesters that there must be accountability. We are a nation of laws. Our laws were broken by the Wall Street mortgage swindlers and foreclosure fraud lawyers. Why have prosecutors remained silent?
“I started out fighting corporate and political corruption in Illinois 45 years ago. I am the only presidential candidate in either party with a consistent record of fighting for public integrity and public accountability [see http://www.AndyMartin.com]. Finally, the public mood has caught up with my views. We need responsibility and we need accountability. The ‘old ways’ are not working. ‘Obama’s Way’ is not working.
“I believe the other Republican presidential candidates and our congressional leaders are missing an opportunity to properly present our agenda. To be sure, Occupy Wall Street is not a sympathetic audience. But the mark of a real leader is someone who does not shy away from people who disagree with him. The Gipper would be proud of my efforts.
“On September 15th New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg predicted ‘riots in the streets’ if the economy did not improve [link below]. Bloomie did not know how right he was. A couple of weeks later the demonstrations appeared. There have been no ‘riots’ as such and the protesters are an overwhelmingly peaceful assemblage. But the patience of the American people is wearing thin with Washington and Wall Street.
“In the final analysis, do we respond to ‘Zuccotti Park’ with police power and political vitriol, or do we respond with humility and a commitment to listen? As the only presidential candidate who can speak for urban America, despite my own small town and New Hampshire family roots, I feel I have a useful role to play at Zuccotti Park. After my 10:30 P.M. news conference I’ll just circulate around and get to sleep when I find a space. The God Lord was born in a barn,” Martin says. “Humility is part and parcel of what it means to be a true Christian.”
Martin is the only presidential candidate with a national campaign headquarters in New York City.
